This cup was thrown on the potter’s wheel using a smooth, rich terracotta clay. These pieces are made to be used and enjoyed on a regular basis. All materials are food, dishwasher and microwave safe (no higher than medium setting).

The imagery was applied to this piece using “monoprint” technique., meaning the composition was painted in reverse- the foreground details were painted first and the background was added last. The pattern was drawn by hand on a piece of newsprint paper and then multiple layers of under-glaze and slip were added to create depth and detail within the composition. After all the details were painted, a layer of white slip was pained over the top adding the white background to the pattern. While the slip was wet, the paper was pressed against the cup form. Pressure from a wet sponge was applied to the paper causing the image to transfer similarly to a temporary tattoo.
